Hello again, readers!

It’s finally October, which means it’s officially spooky season!

Dressing up for Halloween is one of my favorite spooky season activities because for one whole night (or two, if you’re like me and celebrate Halloweekend) you get to be whoever or whatever you want to be. You also get to explore different styles, makeup looks, or even dress up as your favorite character.

And as someone who loves fashion, finding the perfect costume is something which I put a decent amount of thought into. However, deciding who/what to be can be difficult for many reasons.

Comfortability, accessibility to certain pieces, and versatility are all factors that I consider when thinking of a potential Halloween costume (and you should too)!

But if you’re still having trouble taking these factors into account and deciding what you should be for Halloween, allow this blog post to be of some guidance. Some involve props, some can be created from items you may already have in your closet, and all are killer costumes that you could rock for the approaching holiday. Here are some ideas of what you could be:

1. A bunny

Like some of the costumes on this list, for this look you’ll ideally only need one prop. You can easily match your outfit to the color of your bunny ears for a simple and easy look. In my case, I had white and and pink bunny ears from my freshman year of Halloweekend, so I wore a pink skirt (Brandy Melville) and a white corset top to pull the look together. If it’s a little chilly, you can always wear a pair of white knee-high socks to keep your look cute and practical.

2. An angel

I was an angel last year for Halloween and it’s one of my favorite costumes to date. This costume requires a prop or two, but a halo is truly all you need. Luckily, there are easy, cheap DIYs that you can follow to achieve this look. For my costume, I wore a white tube top and a white tutu but you can always just wear a plain white skirt or jeans. I also wore a pair of white fishnet tights underneath to complete the look.

3. A cowgirl

The cowgirl trend has been popular within recent years, so finding props to go along with your costume should be relatively easy. Last year, I wore a tie-front top, a jeans skirt and a red bandana around my neck. All of these items were already a part of my wardrobe and made it a simple yet effective costume. If you want to really have fun with the look, you can find a cowgirl hat that best fits your aesthetic. A recent trend has been decorating cowgirl hats with fur, paint, rhinestones, and/or glitter, which could be a chill activity to do on Halloween night instead of going out!

4. A vampire

To be a vampire for Halloween, all you need to wear is all black clothing and bright red lipstick. Here, I wore a faux leather jacket (Forever 21), a black bodysuit underneath, and a pair of black, ripped skinny jeans. I also paired this look with some black booties to add a little edge to the look. If you want, you can smudge your red lipstick at the edges and add two little dots of eyeliner to the side of your neck, to really establish your look.

5. Maddy from Euphoria

It’s not secret how much HBO’s Euphoria has made an impact on the fashion world. For me, character Maddy Perez has been an inspiration for my fashion choices ever since I watched the show. So, naturally, I looked online for similar items to her iconic looks and pretty much found a dupe for one of her outfits. This cropped denim top and these flare jeans are similar to her IAMGIA set (pictured below) in her hallway scene with Nate. This coupled with her well-known rhinestone makeup look is sure to turn heads and clue people in on exactly who you are.

6. A clown

If you're looking for a simple, yet fun, look: a clown is the perfect costume! The only addition that I needed for this costume was a pair of rainbow socks which costs me less than $5 and can be found almost anywhere. I paired the same tutu I wore in my angel costume with a red top and put my hair in pigtails. The good thing about this costume is that it relies less on props and more on makeup, meaning you basically already have everything you need to complete the look without spending tons of money!

7. A hippie (or Jackie Burkhart)

Flared jeans are back in style, making this costume an easy look to recreate. My inspiration for this look is Jackie Burkhart from That 70s show. Like Jackie, I wore a pair of my favorite light-wash flared jeans from Forever 21 and a mockneck top. This paired with my white Go-Go booties, a white headband and some oval-shaped sunglasses complete the look. You can also exchange a mockneck top for a tube top or a bell-sleeve top to fit the funky, fun era of the 70s.

8. A jock/baseball player

My second night of Halloween freshman year, I was a baseball player. I bought this cheap jersey from Forever 21 and wore my hair in pigtails. Underneath, I wore black fishnet tights. This simple costume is super easy to recreate and, if you’re up for it, you can use eyeliner to paint two black striped under each eye to mimic the Eye-Black that jocks wear.

9. Britney Spears

School is in session with this halloween costume! If you're wanting to emulate a celebrity this year, why not try a throwback? Britney Spears is iconic in her ...Baby One More Time music video and you can be iconic too by recreating her schoolgirl look. All you need is a white crop top (preferably one that ties in the front, but it's not required), a gray cardigan, a black skirt and matching knee-high socks. Throw your hair into two ponytails and you have your completed costume!

10. A frat boy

Lastly, if you’re wanting to go for a goofier costume, you can always dress as a typical college fraternity boy. For this costume, I wore a baseball cap (I was given this at a party, so no buying necessary), an oversized t-shirt, baggy shorts, and my Sk8-Low Vans. If you want to go all out, drawing on a little mustache will complete your look and is sure to get some laughs from your friends.

If you're still having trouble deciding what or whom you should be for halloween or you're crunched for time here are 18 more costume ideas from YouTuber Laini Ozark that you can use as inspiration, as well.

No matter how you’re deciding to celebrate halloween this year, stay safe and stay spooky, readers!
